Long-distance move from Hertfordshire to Hertfordshire

Horrific!!

Horrific experience and customer service, used them for a 3rd time however suddenly have been awful!! Second hand boxes (despite paying for boxes), rude team, broke my TV and then claimed they shouldn’t have moved it, won’t pay or even respond to my email, drove off with my items without permission...do I even need to go on? Avoid at all costs if you value your time, your stuff and your dignity!

Simply Removals is a cowboy outfit.

They may give you the cheapest quote but you will pay. The removal men hardly spoke a word of English (Eastern Europeans) and were rude, surly and rough with our belongings. Our piano seemed to be a surprise to them even though, in our quote, it was quite clearly itemised and we were supposed to get special equipment for it. Things were scratched and lost. I tried to contact the company but no emails or calls were responded to. Absolutely the worst removal service I've ever experienced. It seems I'm not alone in saying this. I wish I'd seen these reviews before. Please see photo - this van with its wing mirrors broken and strapped with tape - pretty much sums up Simply Removals.

Long-distance move from Bedford, Bedfordshire to Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire

Exceptional Removal Experience.

I would not hesitate in recommending Simply Removals, the quality of service and very reasonable costs make them a great company to deal with.  My removal was from Bedford near Cambridge, to Montrose near Aberdeen, a move of 477miles. Everything from the pick up to delivery was dealt with efficiently and courteously with true professionalism. This is the second time I have used Simply and would definitely use them again.

Once money taken no customer service.

As everyone can relate moving is very stressful. I contacted simply removals after searching for local movers online.
Unfortunately at that time I didn't find many bad reviews and as I was desperate, had a chat with the customer service guy and went with them.
I spoke to them on phone and invited for assessing the job which the person on phone declined. He thought 40 boxes would be enough to move a family with 3 bedrooms. Was promised that the van will be at my service for half day so multiple trips would be possible as the distance we were moving was less than 5 miles.
On the day.. Medium sized van with 40 boxes which I would consider to be medium when compared to the ones on Amazon.
Luckily I had bought 20 large boxes from Amazon and had my clothes and few other things packed.

After an hour into the job the driver/packer started calling the office and complaining that things are too much. I didn't get involved yet then in the next 30mins he started mumbling about leaving because he had another job waiting.
It's now that I was on phone with the person I spoke to initially. Now his tone and way of speaking was not in anyway courteous. This is when I felt like I have booked job with a cowboy company. The person went on to call me a liar which really winded me and made me very upset.
What can you talk to a person who declines everything you've agreed for a talks pretty blunt after taking your money in one go 3 days before the job.

I agreed to pay the packer more so that we can move the same day but that didn't go well as well.

I ended up on phone at the last minute to different moving companies to move the remaining items finally at the end of day found Transport Masters who were ready to move anything that is packed and working on hourly rate.

At the end of the day I paid £1000 and my moving felt very upsetting.

It's been 2 months now since we moved and even thinking about it is bringing back bad feeling and memory.

It's only after that experience that I went online and found floods of reviews online about the kind of service received from the simply removals company and was wondering why this didn't catch my eye before.
Anyway I raised a compliant with the company not for any kind of remuneration but to make sure that process is in place and another customer is not treated the way I was treated and made feel so helpless on the day of move. After few weeks I received a reply from the company stating that the customer facing employees have been informed to be more courteous to customers but the remaining mail felt as if they were covering themselves (I knew this is what such companies would do) and took no responsibility for what had happened.

I HAVE BEEN CONNED BY A COWBOY REMOVAL COMPANY CALLED Simply removals.

The main reason for me leaving this review is that no one else falls for this company like I did.
Please people learn from my mistake.

Long-distance move from Reading, Berkshire to Reading, Berkshire

Don't Use This Company!! You Have Been Warned!! a Bunch of Cowboys!!

Hello,
Please, if you're thinking of using this company..DON'T!
We had Simply Removals booked to move my husband and I from a 3 bed house to a mobile home. We were moving less than a mile away! We had very little in the way of bulky furniture as it was not needed due to the fact of moving to a much smaller property.
It didn't get off to a good start at all as the 2 man team were nearly 2 hours late, we received no apology and no explantion despite making several calls to the company requesting the teams whereabouts. We were just given lame excuses and they really couldn't have cared less! When they finally arrived, they tried to tell us that they couldn't speak or understand English!! Its absolutely disgusting that you pay for a service when you cannot communicate with the representatives! Its totally out of order and Simply Removals shouldn't be allowed to get away with it. Moving house is stressful enough without the added pressure of not being able to communicate with the team.
As a result of this problem, my husband who has a lot of specialised music and recording equipment, tried to explain to the team that he would be taking the equipment himself, then the next thing we knew it was on the back of their van!! My husbnad was furious that we couldn't make them understand what we wanted. It was a ridiculous situation. Why should you be expected to use sign language to communicate with these people that we were paying for!
They were not careful and managed to break an upright fan, an electric toaster and a bedside cabinet drawer.
We finally got to our new home and once again we gave up trying to get across to the 2 guys where we wanted items put, we ended up having to do more work than we shoudl have had to do.
Then, when the team finished, they reversed their van to get out and unfortunately drove over a neighbours path, this resulted in breaking 3 x paving slabs and knocking out some brickes from the surrounding wall of the mobile home! A neighbour who was washing his car just a few yards away stopped the team to tell them what they'd done but once again because they didn't speak or understand English, he was unable to get across to them regarding the damage they'd caused.
We followed the complaints procedure but needless to say, Simply Removals denied liability. The lady who's path and wall they damaged is 85 years old and lives alone. She's very frail and walks with a stick. She uses this path to walk on to get to her shed where her freezer is housed. I informed Simply Removals of this fact but just as predicited, it made no difference at all. We are now seeking legal advice for compensataion as my husband and I have had to make good the repairs.
Well, that's my experience of SIMPLY REMOVALS. I urge you to steer claer of this company.
Thank you
Christine & Malcolm

Do not touch these rogue traders!!

These lot a nasty bunch of deceitful people who
claim they are professional and accredited with The Guild and Ombudsman. Well I
am taking my case to the Ombudsman and see what they have to say.

They moved us to our house, were late , slow
and inefficient and broke 3 items of my furniture. When I have pursued their
complaints department they have not replied and lied saying they did not
receive my emails. So their so called 10 working days has not been met. The
Ombudsman will have something to say about that!

They then deny liability. My dressing table
weighs over 150kg.

Long-distance move from London, Greater London to London, Greater London

Don't even know where to start, awful..

Two removals men arrived promptly but that's where the good service ended for us. They were rude, hurried us, complained about volume of items to move under their breath, and damaged walls by carelessly banging into them with chairs and similar, leaving black marks on new paint. Don't wish to be rude but they could barely speak English which did not help when trying to communicate with them. Pressured us into dismantling two large cube bookshelves so they didn't have to carry them in one piece. We were not comfortable with this as we were worried about damage and losing bits, but agreed as they were aggressive about it. One of them kept saying 'I am trying to help you, you have to help me help you'. Very unprofessional. When we unpacked at our destination we were relieved to see that nothing seemed damaged, so tipped them £40 and they went on ther way. Ten minutes after they left we realised half of the bookshelves (the ones they pressured us into dismantling) were missing. Called them and couldn't get a response for two hours. Eventually got hold of them, and the drivers stated that they had stored the bookshelves in the front of the van under the seat 'for safekeeping'. We did not see them do this and they did not tell us they had done this. By this point they were on the other side of London so we had to arrange to meet them at a halfway point and pick up the shelves. When we receiveed the shelves they were stacked one on top of the other inside a dirty blanket. Because the shelves have a glossy finish they had scratched and rubbed against each other and were hideously damaged (as they had been driven to the other side of London and back, presumably sliding around under the seat of their van). We reported this to the customer service team and asked to claim on the insurance. The customer service team took a month to get back to us and eventually said that because we had ticked a VERY MISLEADING box on the contract we were not able to claim for anything over £50 per item. (We have absolutely no recollection of ticking this box - they might have done it themselves for all we know). The shelves are worth £500 each. No apology, no offer to at least return the tip we gave them as a gesture of good faith (which could at least have covered our petrol fare for when we had to go and collect the shelves). Outrageous customer service. Goodness knows what other deliberately misleading clauses they have in their contracts. This is how they get you! We feel very stupid. They are cheap for a reason, DO NOT USE.

Long-distance move from London, Greater London to London, Greater London

Simply Stressful Removals.

My complaint starts on the day of packing, two men arrived around 2.00pm to start packing. In my view the boxes used were small and within an hour and some minutes 40 boxes had been stacked. My concern was that quite a bit of my furniture was left unpacked and I could not understand why time had been spent taking things out of boxes that I had previously packed? I did not question this because I believed that I had paid for a professional service? Whilst packing one of the men continuously commented on how much possessions I had. My thought was that this was not his business and he should just get on with the service I had paid him to provide. He also complained about not being paid adequately for the job?

The next morning I expected an arrival at 9.00am. I had previously explained at the time of booking that I needed to be out of the property by midday because I would be completing on that day and the buyers would want access to their home. I received a call from the gentleman who had been at my home packing the previous day to say he was stuck in traffic and would be delayed by about an hour, I expressed my concern about vacating the property by midday and I was assured that I would be packed and moving by 1.00pm at the latest. This made me anxious, but again, I trusted that I would be moved in time.

At around 11am on the move day, I received a phone call from the office to say that 60 boxes had been packed and that if I wanted the rest of my things packed it would cost me £8 per box or £72 per hour. I was also told that the truck would not be big enough and that I would be charged an additional £72 per hour for any extra trips made. How did they know that the truck would not be big enough? I had no white goods and my bed, chest of draws x 2, sofa and wardrobes were to be dismantled. I had no white goods (washing machine, fridge, dish washer, etc). I was furious, given that I had an hour to vacate the address and could have packed my things the previous day had I been told? The stress of this made me swear at the person who had called me, because I had been quite calm until Simply Removals started to spring all these extra costs on me. I had also told them at the time of booking that I would need double the boxes they recommended and trusted that this had been taken into consideration? As a result of the stress I failed to recognise that only 40 boxes had been packed, not 60. I was made to feel that the move would not go ahead and I would incur charges for waiting etc.

I called the packer / removal man on the day of the move, they still had not arrived at 11.10am and asked what was happening about the packing. I was told not to worry and that he was on his way with extra boxes and was 3 miles away. The packer arrived at 11.30am. I was forced to lift and pack boxes because time was against me. The packer was complaining and I packed most of the boxes that were packed that day!

At around 2pm on the day of the move the packing was still not complete and only my bed had been dismantled. The new owners of the flat turned up at the property, I was horrified! I assured them that I would vacate the property as soon as possible.

Furniture that should have been dismantled was loaded into the van which took up space. I was told that my items were heavy (bearing in mind there were no white goods) and that they would not be able to fit my wardrobe, TV's and a 4 more boxes. I cried, Simply Removals were making moving very stressful for me!

The removal man left at approximately 3.30pm, hours after the scheduled time. I arrived at around 4.20pm. I expected the van to arrive shortly afterwards. I made and received several call over the next 5 hours. According to the removal man, the van had broken down due to the weight of my boxes? The van arrived at approximately 10.30pm. I was too exhausted to complain. There were four men and it took them about an hour to unload. At around 11.30pm we returned to the property to pick up my wardrobe, TV and approximately 4 boxes. The van left before the packing was completed and I had to carry the remaining items that had been left behind in my car, this was around midnight on 31 January 2015.

I arrived back at 1.00am. I was locked out because the builders had left with the key to the main door. I cried! The removal men unpacked the wardrobe and other items and left them on the doorstep. I begged them to take my TV because my car was full and asked if they could return it the next day. The driver complained that he was tired, but agreed to take the TV and return it the next day.
I had to drive to NW London from Surrey with a car full of possessions and food, some frozen, so that I wasn't left vulnerable in my car.

The next day ( 31st January 2015) my possessions were returned at about 9pm. I offered the removal man £20 for looking after my TV. He told me he needed more for his diesel and to pay his mate, his look and tone was intimidating! I told him I had no more money and thanked him. I shut the front door. The two items of furniture that were dismantled were not reassembled and I will now have to pay a handy man to do this.

I feel as though I was taken advantage of because I was moving on my own and I am a woman. I would be most grateful if you could take my complaint seriously. The conduct of these people representing your organisation was not acceptable. I would also like you to consider compensation.

I received a response saying they would deal with my complaint with 10 days, instead a received a further invoice. After 15 days I received an email saying I needed to pay the invoice I was disputing before they would deal with my complaint!!

Damaged furniture and only paying out 50% of claim.

Stay away from this company. A number of my furniture items arrived damaged after being in storage. The claim process is hideous. After getting quotes I submitted the claim form and they then offered to pay 50% of the claim as I had not submitted evidence of the replacement value where the repair was cheaper. I then resubmitted the claim form with the correct evidence and now they say they won't look at the new submission - ridiculous!! I am furious.

Avoid this company.

I used this firm as I am a single parent and needed a company I could trust. This didn't happen. They failed to protect the carpets in both property's and on a rainy day. My brand new sofa was damaged and belongings of mine never made it off the van and into my new home which is theft. I have contacted the company 4 times and still await any sort of acknowledgement. Dreadful experience so please avoid this company at all costs. I wish I'd done the move by myself now.
